Celebrating Creativity and Innovation at FIRST® LEGO® League Explore 2023-24

The exhilarating atmosphere of the FIRST® LEGO® League Explore 2023-24 filled the air as 40 enthusiastic teams gathered to showcase their ingenuity and problem-solving skills. This year's event was particularly special as the winning school secured its champion title for the second consecutive year. The competition was made possible through the generous support of our co-organizer, the Hong Kong Association for Computer Education (HKACE) and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Hong Kong, who respectively provided esteemed judges and award presenters. Our heartfelt thank you also goes to our supporting organization, Maryknoll Secondary School, for graciously offering their campus as the venue. 

Unleashing Creativity through Masterpiece
This year's FIRST® LEGO® League Explore season revolved around the captivating theme of "MASTERPIECE." Teams were encouraged to combine their artistic flair with technological prowess to create innovative solutions that would engage and captivate audiences. The participants embraced this challenge wholeheartedly, pouring their passion into their projects, and engaging spectators with the power of their choices. From designing interactive art installations, applying tech set up to facilitate event operations to developing apps for community building, the teams explored a wide range of ideas, leaving us in awe of their creativity.
 

Each team underwent two rounds of judging, during which they presented their challenge solution, showcased their LEGO models, and explained their ideas through visually appealing posters. Furthermore, the judges evaluated the teams on how well they demonstrated teamwork, problem-solving skills, and their overall commitment to learning and growth. Witnessing the teams' dedication was truly inspiring.

Special Activities to Inspire and Engage
The event went beyond the competition itself, featuring a range of special activities designed to inspire and engage the young participants. FLL Explore emphasizes that observation and sharing promotes collaboration and mutual learning among the teams, and hence the overall learning experience and effectiveness.

Students were invited to "Paint Your Passion," allowing them to express their interests through art. Their vibrant creations were then hung together, forming a collaborative piece that celebrated the collective spirit of the event.

An activity playbook was provided, presenting a series of tasks that encouraged students to share their ideas and visit each other's projects.

Participants also had the opportunity to create personalized badges which they can keep as memories or give away as gifts to their new friends!

Face painting added an extra element of fun and creativity to the atmosphere, also adding much photo memories!
